Five area eighth grade students have been selected as winners of Tri-County Electric Cooperative’s (TCEC) Youth Power Energy Camp essay contest. The camp is held at Canyon Camp near Hinton, Okla. each year.
Energy Camp participants develop leadership skills, have summertime fun and learn about rural electrification. Eighth graders across TCEC’s service territory are invited to submit letters to enter the contest each year. Five outstanding eighth graders were selected as winners this year:
- Sara Ferguson, Texhoma Middle School
- Makenzie Yates, Texhoma Middle School
- Makayla Frentress, Texhoma Middle School
- Natalie Nevarez, Yarbrough Middle School
- Paola Garcia, Yarbrough Middle School
The winners will spend May 26-29 enjoying the activities at Canyon Camp participating in volleyball tournaments, swimming, hiking, energy battle, ropes course and making new friends and memories. In addition, they will experience first-hand the exciting world of electricity, climb poles, and watch a co-op crew at work. Plus, they will have the opportunity to sharpen their leadership skills by working with new found friends from every corner of the state to set up and run their own cooperative business.
“Energy camp offers eighth graders an experience to remember for a lifetime,” said Chris Purdy, vice president, Member Solutions at TCEC.
