Lesley Alvarado returns from TCEC sponsored youth tour
Lesley Alvarado of Adams, has recently returned home from an eventful, fun-filled week in Washington, D.C. Lesley, daughter of Maria and Jesus Alvarado, won the 2015 Rural Electric Cooperative “Youth Tour” contest sponsored by Tri-County Electric Cooperative (TCEC) in Hooker.
The 52nd Annual Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour began June 12 with a “Get Acquainted Banquet” in Oklahoma City. The 69 young winners, representing 25 of the state’s rural electric systems, departed for the nation’s capital the next morning.
“In my opinion, the most exciting part of the trip was receiving a private tour of the Capitol with Congressman Mullin. The whole trip was absolutely perfect. I loved it all,” said Lesley.
“Other highlights of the trip were visiting the Library of Congress, the dance party cruise with many different other states, seeing the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, and of course spending the week with the most fantastic people in Oklahoma.”
In addition to seeing all the historical monuments and taking photos of the White House, the Oklahoma winners toured the U.S. Capitol, The U.S. Holocaust Museum, the Pentagon, Mount Vernon, Ford’s Theatre and enjoyed a riverboat cruise on the Potomac River. The group also hosted a Congressional Summit for the Oklahoma Delegation, aides and guests, assisted by Congressman Lucas, Cole and Senator Inhofe and their staff. The tour is coordinated each year by the Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives.
