As of 9 a.m. Friday, January 20, we are entering day six since Winter Storm Jupiter hit. This has been a catastrophic event for TCEC. We have numerous miles of line on the ground and crews are working safely on restoration efforts. While some areas were hit harder than others, our entire system has taken a toll. We have over 150 lineworkers and contractors assisting with restoration efforts and the rebuilding of our system.

Beaver County was the hardest hit area. We lost almost 1,800 poles and about 85 miles of line. Although power has been restored to the towns affected by the storm, those in more rural areas should brace to be without power for at least a week. TCEC hopes to have residential members in rural areas of Beaver and Texas County restored by January 28. Our main focus is to restore power to residences first.

Due to the road conditions and extent of the damage it has been a slow process, but our outage numbers continue to decrease from more than 7,000 meters to less than 1,300 meters and less than 300 residences. We thank you for your continued patience during this event.

For those who are without power, the Ministerial Alliance of Beaver has an emergency shelter set up at the Church of Christ. It is serving hot meals at 8 a.m., noon and 6 p.m. through Sunday, January 22. Contact Reverend Jim Reeves at 806.330.2267 for more information.

Remember to stay away from power lines on the ground or touching trees. If you have reported damage, we are aware of it and are working toward fixing it.

If you use a portable generator, isolate it from our lines. Generators that are not isolated can feed back into our electrical system and possibly electrocute anyone coming in contact with those wires. If you don't have a double throw transfer switch installed by a qualified electrician, plug appliances directly into the generator using a properly sized extension cord. Notify TCEC of any generators in use that are not isolated so we can note your account. Due to the ongoing restoration, we are not performing generator inspections.
