Severe weather causes widespread outages

Kaboom! Sudden darkness. Don’t you hate that? TCEC does too. Nine substations lost power causing outages from Hooker west to Felt for about 5,700 member accounts on the evening of July 15 due to severe weather.

How long does it take to get the power back on? TCEC linemen carefully check lines and substations to make sure the power equipment is not damaged.

“Although it takes time to patrol the lines, this ensures the public’s safety and helps to prevent any further damage to our power lines or equipment,” said Zac Perkins, TCEC’s chief operating officer.

Perkins mentioned the cooperative’s free smartphone app comes in handy for members during an outage.

“Members can use our mobile app to report an outage and stay up-to-date on the situation via our Facebook and Twitter feeds as well as our outage map,” he said. “It’s the go-to tool to stay in the know.”

The TCEC Mobile app can be downloaded via www.tcec.coop or from your phone’s app store. Members who prefer to call their outage in can do so 24/7 by calling 580-652-2418.
