Eighth Graders win free trip to Energy Camp

On February 18 and 19, TCEC presented four area eighth graders with a free trip to the 2016 Energy Camp. Thirteen students from area schools applied and four of them were selected through the application process. The winners received an all-expense paid youth leadership trip to Energy Camp in Red Rock Canyon, Hinton, Oklahoma. 
Each of the winners were presented their award at a surprise school assembly. The delegates TCEC will send to Energy Camp are:

High school juniors win cooperative leadership trips

Five high school juniors were awarded 2016 Gold and Silver youth trip awards by TCEC on February 8. Sixteen students from area schools applied and 12 of them were interviewed for the for all-expense paid youth leadership trips this summer to either Washington, D.C., or Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

TCEC announces partnership with BarberWind Turbines, LLC

Hooker, OK - February 10, 2016 – On Friday, February 5, three trucks rolled into the yard at TCEC and began unloading. The shipment is the first of several containing the assemblies of a BWT-800kW wind turbine to be erected at TCEC. 

Co-op heroes receive Power & Hope Award

TCEC employees work hard to keep the lights on every day in the communities they serve. While they’re out, they’re observant of their surroundings, going the extra mile to make a difference in the lives of members. Five TCEC employees recently received the Touchstone Energy® Power & Hope Award for their actions in emergency situations. 

TCEC employees donate to food bank

During its annual Co-op Cares Food Drive, TCEC employees raised funds and the cooperative matched them for a total of $4,170. Four food pantries in local communities will each receive $1,042.50 thanks to the generosity of the cooperative and its employees. 

TCEC employees delivered a donation to the Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry in Beaver on January 19. The pantry relies solely on donations.

Local Co-ops Contribute to YMCA

Panhandle Telephone Cooperative, Inc. (PTCI) and Tri-County Electric Cooperative (TCEC) came together to donate $5,000 toward the Texas County Family YMCA’s annual fundraising campaign.

The annual support campaign helps fund the YMCA’s scholarship program, which helps low-income families with membership and program fees so they can take advantage of the YMCA’s offerings. The campaign also helps to keep programs affordable for all members, provides upkeep for the facility and helps with the overall sustainability of the YMCA.

Annual power pole inspection underway

TCEC contractor crews with Global Utility Services will be inspecting power poles for quality condition and stability for the next three to four months. The areas to be inspected are as follows:

Wanted: High school juniors and 8th graders to take all-expense paid trips

Don’t miss the January 25 deadline to apply for three amazing trips from TCEC. Applying is simple and going is free, there’s no catch because these trips are from your local electric cooperative.

Three high school juniors will be awarded trips to Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. from June 10 - 16. Two more will be awarded the opportunity to go to Leadership Camp in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, from July 16 - 22. Four eighth graders have the chance to go to YouthPower Energy Camp nestled in Red Rock Canyon at Canyon Camp, near Hinton, Oklahoma, from May 31 - June 3.

Oklahoma Panhandle breezes through

TCEC is always prepared to respond to potential weather events such as the forecasted blizzard over Christmas weekend. Although, the Oklahoma Panhandle breezed through the weekend without snow, the area was hit by bitter cold, dry winds. 

Prepare before the storm

TCEC has been monitoring the coming winter weather event to be prepared in case of potential damage to the system and possible widespread outages. A winter storm system is forecasted to impact TCEC’s service territory and surrounding areas beginning the Saturday after Christmas, December 26, and continuing through early Tuesday morning, December 29. While precipitation amounts will vary across the cooperative’s service territory, cold temperatures and wet conditions are a combination for possible power outages.
