Youth Tour

If you are a high school junior, you could represent Tri-County Electric in the Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. for free! Tri-County sponsors a contest each year to select three winners from within its service territory. The 2012 Youth Tour is from June 15-21. Applications are due by November 18.

New for 2012, students will be interviewed for selection as a delegate on the Youth Tour. Interviews will take place on Thursday, December 1 in the evening hours in Guymon. Applicants will receive more details once applications are submitted. Applicants will be judged on the following criteria:

• 30% Poise including the ability to clearly express thoughts and ideas
• 30% Knowledge of electric cooperatives
• 20% Grammar within written application
• 10% Experience/resume
• 10% Personality

Each June, some 1,250 students from across the United States travel to our nation's capital to learn about government, rural electrification, leadership and electric cooperatives. The trip begins with a "Get Acquainted Banquet" in Oklahoma City, where all state winners meet for an evening of introductions and fun. In Washington, winners embark on a tour of the city, including sightseeing, a riverboat trip on the Potomac and breakfast with Oklahoma's Congressional delegation. Students also attend a series of educational seminars.
